The town of Farmington is the county seat of Franklin County in the state of Maine and has a population of almost 8,000. The region has a rich history and was once inhabited by a tribe of the Abenaki Indians known as the Canibas tribe. By 1781 the first settlers began to arrive and the town began to develop. Today the town has its own harness 4 furlong oval racecourse called Farmington Fair, part of the Maine Agricultural Fairs, and traditionally stages 7 consecutive days of racing in mid-September, the highlight of the meeting being the Maine Sire Stakes.
